Over the last few years craft beer has gained great popularity in Estonia. Several local micro breweries are active at the market and many craft beer specialized bars, shops and restaurants are welcoming the customers.
High-quality products and a modern approach to traditional flavors have rapidly raised the reputation of Estonian craft beers on the international scene. The most prestigious breweries in Estonia, Põhjala Brewery and Pühaste are constantly receiving worldwide recognition at international beer festivals and have made a huge contribution to the local craft beer market. Both mentioned breweries are also organizing two top beer events in Estonia – the Tallinn Craft Beer Weekend and the Pühaste Beer Festival.
In addition to that, several other small micro breweries (such as Tanker, Sori Brewing, Lehe Brewery) have firmly established their presence in the market. Brewing quality in general and product development are steadily increasing, driven by investment in the sector.
The market infrastructure created by the breweries over the last 3-4 years is bearing fruit in the Estonian beer landscape, especially in the form of specialized bars, restaurants and shops is making Estonia and especially Tallinn one of the most attractive destinations in Scandinavia. Craft beer has also increased people’s general awareness and interest in beer. The launch of the BrewDog bar, Taptap and most recently the Põhjala Taproom and Pühaste beer restaurant has of course made a huge contribution to that. Additionally, there are about 10 different craft beer specialized bars and shops in Tallinn, which all offer a very high level of customer service and entertainment. Koht bar in the Old Town of Tallinn, the Põrgu Beer Restaurant, Pudel bar in the Telliskivi Creative City, Uba ja Humal Taproom in the Kalaranna district and the Drink Bar & Grill in the Old Town – all definitely worth a visit.
